Safe Kids and FedEx Promote Use Of Sky Walk And Raise Awareness For Child Pedestrian Safety
Safe Kids Foundation and FedEx joined the United Nations, World Health Organization, Long Short Walk and Brihanmumbai Mahapalika Shikshak Sabha to host Global Road Safety Week (May 6 – 13, 2013) and promote pedestrian safety and work towards safer roads for children.
As part of this effort, more than 200 participants, including Mumbai Police, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Education, Education officer, children and parents joined Safe Kids Foundation to promote walking safety.
The Global Road Safety Week is part of the Decade of Action for Road Safety, a United Nations initiative, which aims to save 5 million lives between 2011 and 2020. This year, the theme of Global Road Safety Week focuses on pedestrian safety.
On May 6, 2013 FedEx volunteers with sign boards urged pedestrians to use the footpath and skywalk at Sion in Central Mumbai. They also took part in The Long Short Walk – a World Walk for Road Safety. The week also witnessed skits and songs performed by children promoting pedestrian safety.
On May 7, 2013 an event showcasing the activities of Safe Kids Foundation’s Walk This Way – Pedestrian safety program was organised. Children exhibited a skit and also sang songs promoting road safety. Dr P S Pasricha, Former Director General of Police, Maharashtra was the Chief Guest at the event.
